The Art of Weaving

I think that writing, like weaving baskets, is an artform. On this page I’ve blended the two and would like to share my Old Glory pattern with you. You can download a copy using the button below. (Please note: The pattern calls for a round-top notched handle placed from front to back. The handle pictured above was from a custom order filled many years ago. I do not have contact information for the metalworker who produced them for me.)

I’d like to invite you to hop over to the VALERIE’S BOOKS tab and take a gander at my novels. In several books you will find basket-weaving characters whose lives are upended by danger, despair, or loss, and who hold onto hope while they struggle to right their worlds.

In Anchored: A Lamp in the Storm, you will meet a burly seafaring lightship crew member and discover the history behind Nantucket Lightship basketry.

Within the pages of Signs of Life, you will meet Zach and his deaf wife, Juanita. He just inherited his father’s basket supply company and relocated his reluctant family. It’s too late to backpedal when he discovers the business isn’t doing well.

In Gifted: A Basket Weaver’s Tale, Connie leads an orderly and planned life until a scoundrel pulls her into his dishonest schemes and the doctors deliver an Alzheimer’s diagnosis.
